Climate Change Impacts on New Jersey’s Marine Fisheries
September 16, 2020 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Climate change related factors are expected to continue impacting New Jersey’s marine fishery resources, including both finfish and shellfish species, thereby also impacting the associated commercial and recreational fisheries targeting these resources. This talk, by Dr. Doug Zemeckis from the Rutgers NJAES Cooperative Extension Offices, will describe some of the changes observed in New Jersey’s marine ecosystems and the impacts on marine resources, including changes in when and where animals are being found, effects of ocean warming and acidification, and sea level rise impacts. Fisheries management challenges and the impacts on New Jersey’s fishing industries will also be discussed.
