Ask a Barnegat Bay Scientist: Secrets of the Blue Crab Revealed
February 25, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
You know how to catch them and cook them. But did you know that a female blue crab mates only once? And that she carries several million eggs in her “sponge”?
Learn about the fascinating ecology and mating behavior of the blue crab (Callinectus sapidus) from Dr. Paul Jivoff, a Rider University professor who studies blue crabs in the Barnegat Bay.
DIRECTIONS: The talk will be held in the lecture hall of the Technology building at Ocean County College (see campus map). Park in Lot 1 and walk up to the Student Center (building #8). Turn left and take one of the pathways towards the Technology building (#25). Cross the access road to get to the building’s entrance. The lecture hall (room #115) is straight ahead after you enter.
